A joint lab between the Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence (BCAI) and University of Amsterdam known as DELTA Lab (“Deep Learning Technologies Amsterdam”) was established in April 2017. BCAI supervises PhD topics; mutual research visits, industry sabbaticals at BCAI and research sabbaticals at DELTA Lab, as well as joint retreats will form the basis for this collaboration. I am a PhD student in Deltalab, supervised by Max Welling & Frans Oliehoek (TU Delft). Before starting my PhD, I studied Artificial Intelligence at University of Amsterdam.
My main research interests are reinforcement learning, multi-agent coordination and meta-RL, but I am also interested in deep learning and generative modeling, especially for use in planning & learning for control.

About Me

I am currently assistant professor at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands and part of the Amlab headed by Professor Max Welling as well as the UvA-Bosch Delta lab. I work on machine learning for autonomous robots in perceptually challenging environments. For robots to master a wide array of tasks, machine learning is indispensable, but it is equally important that such tasks can be learned in non-standardized and unstructured environments such as homes or hospitals. Learning tasks in such complicated environment puts additional demands on algorithms for machine learning, perception, and control.

I am a PhD student at UvA Bosch Delta Lab. Modern computer vision models are not invariant under real-life changes such as rotation of the source of illumination or occasional specularities. The goal of my research is to make the models more robust to these transformations by learning the invariant representations of the image.

My research focuses on compression and distillationin Deep Learning. I am particularly interested in probabilistic approaches for sparse and/or efficient Neural Networks, i.e.: variational methods, information theoretic approaches, and Bayesian Deep Learning.

About Me

I am a research chair in Machine Learning at the University of Amsterdam and a VP Technologies at Qualcomm and have a secondary appointment as a senior fellow at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR). I am co-founder of “Scyfer BV” a university spin-off in DL which got acquired by Qualcomm in summer 2017. In the past I held postdoctoral positions at Caltech (’98-’00), UCL (’00-’01) and the U. Toronto (’01-’03). I received my PhD in ’98 under supervision of Nobel laureate Prof. G. 't Hooft. I have served as associate editor in chief of IEEE TPAMI from 2011-2015 (impact factor 4.8). I serve on the board of the NIPS foundation since 2015 (the largest conference in machine learning) and have been program chair and general chair of NIPS in 2013 and 2014 respectively. I was also program chair of AISTATS in 2009 and ECCV in 2016 and general chair of MIDL 2018. I have served on the editorial boards of JMLR and JML and was an associate editor for Neurocomputing, JCGS.

About Me

I am a PhD student affiliated with UvA-Bosch Delta Lab at the University of Amsterdam. I am currently working on explaining the images near the boundary. The images near the boundary we are considering are adversarial examples and hard positive/negative examples. Our end goal is to make classifiers robust against adversarial examples.

Before joining UvA-Bosch Delta Lab I completed my Masters in Electrical Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). My research interests include domain adaptation, explainable AI, Adversarial examples, Zero-shot learning.

About Me

I am an Assistant Professor with the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Scientific Manager of the Delta Lab and a Senior Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in Germany. I hold a BSc degree from Trakya University (2008), MSc degree from RWTH Aachen (2010) and a PhD degree from University of Grenoble (2014). After completing my PhD at the INRIA Rhone Alpes with Prof. Dr. Cordelia Schmid, I worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics with Prof. Dr. Bernt Schiele and a visiting researcher with Prof. Dr. Trevor Darrell at UC Berkeley. My research interests include machine learning that combine vision and language for the task of explainable artificial intelligence (XAI).
